Ganga Yoga teaches Hatha Yoga in the Sivananda tradition.
Ganga is a sacred river of the Hindus which originates from the glacier Gangotri at a point called Gomukh in the Himalayas. One is said to be absolved of all sins by bathing in its holy waters.
Sivananda Yoga is one of the world’s largest schools of yoga. It was developed by Swami Vishnu-devananda and named for his teacher, Swami Sivananda. Sivananda yoga follows a set structure that includes pranayama, classic asanas and relaxation.

In an effort to simplify and clarify the complex philosophies and teachings of Yoga, Swami Vishnu-devananda summarized the wisdom of Yoga in five principles. These 5 points show the way to developing physical and mental health as well as spiritual growth:
- Proper Exercise (Asanas)
- Proper Breathing (Pranayama)
- Proper Relaxation (Savasana)
- Proper Diet (Vegetarian)
- Positive Thinking (Vedanta) and Meditation (Dhyana)
The Ganga Yoga classes are holistic. In a 90 minute class, you will find breathing exercises (pranayama), warm-up exercises, physical postures (asanas), relaxation as well as meditation and chanting of mantras.
